Geek Wedding Invitation

April 4, 2010

First there was Bernie Peng who had the geekiest marriage proposal yet. He manipulated the code in Bejeweled so that when his gamer girlfriend, Tammy Li, reached a certain level in the game, a ring and marriage proposal would appear on the screen. Now Darina and Niko have gone one step further and handed out wedding invitations in the form of an 8-bit video game called “Darina and Niko’s Incredible Adventure”.

The game opens with the following introduction to the game scenario:

The story so far: In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move. About 13.7 billion years later it is a truth universally acknowledged that a single woman in possession of an awesome party dress must be in want of a husband. But as it happens, a malicious fiend has kidnapped the very man she wants. Help Darina to save Niko from the claws of the vicious monster!

The game ends with details of the wedding itself and asks you to RSVP via email. You can play the game as either the bride or groom. The CDs themselves are supplied with an information booklet:

This is so geeky, it warms my heart. What do you think – Yay or nay?

That is geek heaven for sure, but not exactly my thing, as you know!

I think its refreshing when people try to do something original, they obviously put some thought into it. What happens if the monster eats you? Do you still get to go to wedding? 🙂

Part of me wants to run screaming from the room, but the part of me that wants to understand the geek world thinks it’s kinda cool.

If the monster eats you, then maybe you have to attend the wedding in a monster costume 🙂

I actually downloaded and played the game…it was pretty bad, hahaha..

The concept is really cute, I think, and I would love to see more of them. Still, Ian McConville’s game/marriage proposal was the pinnacle of geekiness =]
